PRK
Surface laser correction — ideal when LASIK isn't the best fit.
PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) corrects vision by reshaping the cornea's surface, without creating a flap. It delivers results comparable to LASIK and is often the preferred choice for people with thinner corneas, certain prescriptions, or very active or contact-sport lifestyles.
Because the surface layer heals over a few days, the initial recovery is a little longer than LASIK, with vision sharpening progressively over the following weeks.
Who it’s ideal for
- Thinner or irregular corneas not ideal for a flap
- Active lifestyles or contact sports
- Certain occupations where a flap is less desirable
- Stable prescription and healthy eyes
Candidacy and the right option for you can only be confirmed by a full clinical exam with Dr. Mahmoud Said. This page is general information, not medical advice.
