LASIK vs PRK vs ICL: which vision correction is right for you?

April 24, 20266 min read

LASIK gets the headlines, but it's one of several great options. The right choice depends on your prescription, your corneas, and your lifestyle. Here's how the main three compare.

LASIK (and Femto-LASIK)

The most well-known: a thin corneal flap is created (by an all-laser femtosecond laser in Femto-LASIK), then the cornea is reshaped. Recovery is famously fast — many people see clearly the next day. Ideal for suitable corneas and a wide range of prescriptions.

PRK

Same laser reshaping, but on the surface — no flap. Results are comparable to LASIK; the initial recovery is a few days longer. Often the better choice for thinner corneas, certain prescriptions, or very active, contact-sport lifestyles.

ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)

Instead of reshaping the cornea, a soft lens is placed inside the eye. No corneal tissue is removed, and it's reversible. Excellent for higher prescriptions or thinner corneas where laser isn't ideal.

So which one?

There's no universal 'best' — only the best for your eyes. The decision comes from your corneal map, prescription, and goals, which we go through together at the consultation. That's the whole point of a personalized plan.
